Inspiration for Writers

Emily Darcy compiled this little book of wise words by some of the world’s most renowned authors, such as

  • If there is a book you want to read but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it. (Toni Morrison)
  • You don’t write because you want to say something, you write because you’ve got something to say. (F.Scott Fitzgerald)
  • Easy reading is damn hard writing. (Nathaniel Hawthorne)
  • In a writer there must be two people – the writer and the critic. (Leo Tolstoy)
  • You can only learn to be a better writer by actually writing. (Doris Lessing)
  • The secret of getting ahead is getting started. (Mark Twain)
  • The greatest part of a writer’s time is spent in reading in order to write. A man will turn over half a library to make one book. (Samuel Johnson)
  • We are all apprentices in a craft where no one ever becomes a master. (Ernest Hemmingway)

All these and more are truly inspirational; and I shall look out for her other two compilations (Inspiratiion for Artists and Inspiration for Musicians).
