I was attracted to this book because it’s “A Girl’s Guide to Flat Shoes” and “How to Wear Them with Style”. It is a hardcover book by Hannah Rochell, and has an attractive cover and many colourful photos (by Holly Jolliffle) and pictures/illustrations.
There are descriptions of 48 different shoes (eg Ballet flats, espadrilles, flip-flops, loafers, moccasins, plimsolls, sandals and sneakers); there are also chapters on shoe cleaning, care and tips, shoe spotting and styling tips.
I never knew there were so many names for flat shoes around! Some of these are Kurt Geiger shoes (ankle straps), French Sole pumps (ballet pumps), Grenson ‘Emily’ brogues (flat lace-up shoes), Derbys (formal lace-up shoes), Fringed shoes (that protect you on the golf course), Jellies (made of rubber), Penny loafers (slip-on shoes), Saddle shoes (lace-up shoes popular for golfing), Smoking slippers (a Venetian loafer), Trainers (sports shoes with rubber soles), Wing tips (shoes with a particular type of design on the toe), Winkle pickers (with exaggerated pointy toes), Superga sneakers (tennis shoes).
Though I’m past the age of wearing some of these, it’s never too late to learn about them!
