Martha Argerich and Daniel Barenboim were both born in Buenos Aires one year apart, and first met as children (9 and 8 years old respectively) in 1949. they not only ‘played children’s games undre the table’, but also sight-read and played the piano together. These two child talents are among the greatest pianists in the world today, with Barenboim also a well-known and respected conductor.
This 2014 recital is absolutely brilliant, and the pieces performed are:
- Sonata for Two Pianos in D Major K.448 by W. A. Mozart,
- Variations on an Original Theme in A flat Major D.813 by Franz Schubert for Piano Four Hands, and
- Le sacre de printemps by Igor Stravinsky (Versiion for Piano Four Hands arranged by the composer himself).
I wish I can find more such DVDs on the shelves of the library@esplanade.
