I unknowingly borrowed this DVD (2013) again. I only realised this when I started to nod off, even though it’s touted to be “Sensational, A  Must-See Movie” by Movieline. I must have picked it up because of Jason Bateman and Alexander Skarsgard, and because it was the official selection at the Venice and Toronto International Film Festivals.

The story revolves around a group of strangers, neighbours and colleagues who collide into some sort of a thriller about ordinary people struggling to connect in today’s wired world. It is also about cyber bullies and internet scams. The four sub-plots are:

  •  A hardworking lawyer who, attached to his cell phone, can’t find the time to communicate with his family,
  • A couple drawn into a dangerous situation when their secrets are exposed online,
  • A widowed ex-cop struggling to raise a mischievous son who cyber-bullies a classmate,
  • An ambitious journalist who sees a career-making story as a teen that performs on an adult-only site.
