Perplexity

A table covered in clutter –

school books,

half-read newspapers,

music sheets –

are these the signs of a genius?

A room filled with clapping audience –

children,

adults young and old,

both sexes –

do their hearts sing the same tune?

A brilliant surgeon can’t restart

a heart

that has died from grief,

nor can he

manipulate emotions.

Any ordinary mortal

can tell

that all pretense

and denial

will add up to more heartaches.
