She said it’s called a dessert rose,
he said it should be a desert rose;
Actually, it’s not even a rose –
a rose has a prickly stem, doesn’t it?
And this one doesn’t have thorns.
She said the waters are calm,
he said it has turbulent currents;
Actually, they’re skirting an issue –
there is a vast ocean between their hearts
and their love is a facade.
They are from two different worlds,
like an erhu and a violin,
or a pair of chopsticks and a fork –
all of which are unique and beautiful
and useful in their own way.
