Maple Leaf

Like a lone red maple leaf,

glossy on a warm afternoon,

you stand out in a crowd.

Leaves will fall off, wither and

be carried away by the wind –

these we all know for sure.

Are you like the maple leaf

that will fade away from my life?

Is this what will happen?

If you are going to leave,

please let me know in advance,

so I wouldn’t shed tears.

This world has no permanence:

You said your love is for ever

but then you sneak away.

Everything must be fated:

your heart is cold as slabs of ice,

even on a hot day.
