Chrysanthemum

I translate ‘ti ju hua’ by Tang poet Huang Chao (820-884) as follows:

Blasts of harsh west winds

All over the garden,

Cold and listless petals

Keep butterflies away;

If I should become

The King of Spring one day,

I’ll reward the garden

With blooming peach flowers.
